CD Reviews

The two sides of a genius
Michael Heminger | Pardeeville, WI | 01/31/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It sure took long enough for this one to show up on Amazon. Way out of print, and worth whatever you pay for it. The first several tracks are 'band' efforts, even though Roger plays most of the instruments himself. The songs are lush ("Into The Ocean") or oddly angular and alien ("Nobody Can Tell You") or just plain fun ("Win Instantly"). Then, we get a showcase of his experimental material on the second half of the disc, where he is joined by others who have appeared with him throughout the musical kaleidescope that has been his career. The 'No Man's Band' material (the more experimental stuff) is entertaining but probably won't sustain repeated listening. The previous completed songs are still up to par with other great albums like "Win, Instantly" or "Whamon Express", and I'd recommmend his works to anyone who loves a well-written song with some interesting music behind it. Not for the timid, and it reveals deeper and deeper truth and beauty with each play."
