CD Reviews

Remixing the body eclectic

(4 out of 5 stars)

"If Nitin Sawhney isn't already on your musical radar, "Beyond Skin" is probably the best place to start. If he IS on your radar, you probably don't need my endorsement: this is one you'll want to--strike that, HAVE to--add to your collection. I already had some of these tracks on assorted singles and compilations, including his recent "Fabric Live" set, but there are still enough unreleased tracks here to make it worthwhile. Standouts include the long Free Form mix of "Homelands," the At Jazz mix of "Falling," and Joe Clausell's salsafied mix of "Moonrise." On the "bonus" CD, a one track mix by Nitin of some of these cuts plus a few others, Spain's Ojos de Brujo add flamenco touches to "Acquired Dreams"--I only wish it was one of the stand alone tracks on disc one. Oh well."
