CD Reviews

Wrongfully shelved
Nuisance | Miami | 12/04/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"These record labels are really pathetic. There are some gifted artists out there whose music needs to be heard but these vermin keep putting out these trendy and overrated so-called singers. For those of you that dont know, Nicci Gilbert is part of the group Brownstone. While she was on MCA records this album was supposed to be released on January 14, 2003. But MCA shelved it of course. I had to get this album because why curiosity is leaving me to believe that a most of these shelved R&B albums are not that bad. I was right especially with this record. Nicci Gilbert has a beautiful voice and these songs are the essence of R&B/Soul Music is all about.

My Side of The Story was her first single and with the right type of promotion could have got the album some sales if it was released. Woman In Need, I Cant Forget(It Feels Good), Think Again, and This Woman are all great tracks that give this album much needed rotation. There are only two tracks I didnt feel. Hot Spot and Headlights are pretty bland tracks to me. Other than that Nicci Gilbert's album is nice as long as she sticks with the slow jams.

Conclusion: Nicci Gilbert's Grown Folks Music is another great album that was shelved by a moronic record label unworthy of mention here. Nicci's vocals are amazing and the production is tight too. *Sigh*. It makes me sad when gifted artists like Hil St. Soul, Nicci Gilbert, Athena Cage and Trina Broussard can have their albums put on the shelf when overrated cornballs like Beyawnce' and Ashamti(I meant to spell her name like that because she is a sham) can get their album released with no problems. How much more proof do you need to realize that somebody is blatantly trying to send R&B to the sewer? If you can get a copy of this album then by all means get it.

Standouts: MY SIDE OF THE STORY, WOMAN IN NEED, THINK AGAIN, SHE'LL NEVER LOVE YOU, I CANT FORGET(IT FEELS GOOD, THIS WOMAN and GREY SKIES."
