CD Reviews

Interesting even if not totally original

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album was an interesting surprise. Bozzio's voice is in fine form, still with the trademark squeak yet just a hint of age and maturity. She offers some fun, energetic takes on a handful of 80s classics. While a good time to listen to, she rarely does anything totally original with the arrangements, sticking closely to their original form. She does fine with them, but that's the reason for the one-star deduction: nothing terribly new to it all.

The one notable exception to my complaint is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Bozzio offers a unique, slower and more atmospheric reading of the Cyndi Lauper staple. Very, very nice.

I would've liked to hear some new original music from Bozzio instead of a brief collection of 80s covers and two unnecessary remixes. But, as stated, a fun ride nonetheless. With only 9 songs (two of which appear in two different versions), save yourself a few bucks and buy it used."
She's back! Hurray!

"I am so grateful to Dale for putting something new out there! My only complaint: this album is just too brief. I am a big fan so of course I am greedy. I want more, more, more! Dale's unique vocal style that sent her to the forefront of the New Wave scene can be heard once again on the 5 new cover songs we are presented with here. All are fun classics, now with her special brand on them. (I can't get enough of her strange N.E. accent or her squeaky hiccups!) Her band sounds great too. I saw her a few years ago and they put on a killer show. Hopefully there is much more to come from Dale as she is off to a great start! I am curious why the two earlier covers she did for Cleopatra Records weren't included (Prince's I Would Die 4 U and Madonna's Get Into The Groove). Instead, a re-recording of Words and Destination Unknown, which although good as they sound, not exactly re-invented enough to explain why they are here. (Still, I am grateful to have them). But then 2 remixes from a previous remix album of Missing Persons songs are thrown on at the end... huh??? Alright, whatever. I think Dale deserves more respect than she seems to get. Maybe there will be a more ambitious attempt to showcase her talent next time around. Anyway, it's a fun record that is way overdue!"
!! SHES BACK !!

"What a great surprise this new album was, Dale is in fine form and her voice is strong in delivering 5 of her favorite 80s classic songs. Missing Persons 2 biggest hits begin the album (I can listen to Words for days on end) and her trademark accent and squeak is all over the place and she more than makes these classic songs her own. The inclusion of 2 Missing Persons songs to close the album is somewhat puzzling; Cleopatra could have easily included Dales versions of 'Into the groove' and 'I would die 4 u' (without a doubt Dales FINEST recording to date) to make it a COMPLETE album and it will forever remain a mystery why they didnt. Longtime and dedicated fans are still waiting for new material from Dale as well ..until then this album will suffice quite nicely in anticipation of things to come .."
