Synopsis

Don't expect a second line of denizens from Odessa to come marching down the street behind this band. Rather, you should steel yourself for energetic, aggressive, modern music with deep respect for the roots of klezmer but a determined forward approach and a bit of a sly, sideways grin. It's all fair game for this band that ruthlessly mixes Jewish theater with a Louis Armstrong downbeat or a Latin backbeat. Expert musicianship and tight chops are tempered by a sense of humor that produces songs to match zany titles like "Struttin' with Some Doner Kebab," "Moroccan Roller," and "Not Too Eggy." Whether it's Arab and Jewish jazz or rock and locks, this band produces a big sound. Accordion, clarinets, and saxophones dance with a heavy rhythm section, particularly induced by drummer Kevin O'Day and bass partner Arthur Kastler. Great tunes; not a tchotchke in the lot. --Louis Gibson

CD Reviews

Better than you might think!
John Malone | Houston, TX USA | 06/19/2002

"At first glance, you might give these guys the cold shoulder. With their klezmer stylings, along with accordian, guitar, and bass, you might think these guys would be most at home at a Bar Mitzvah. You'd be dead wrong. I saw these guys play their songs from this CD at New Orleans and they TORE THE PLACE UP! These guys are unbelievable. You will not be able to keep yourself from dancing. Not only is their musicianship unbelievable, but they also know how to groove like no other. If you can, I recommend you see them live. Barring that, the CD will do you just fine."
You must own this album!

"This band is fierce and festive! They are rich with passion, humor and artistry. I have never gotten hooked on a sound so immediately and fervently. Every song is a mad celebration!"
Jazz & Klezmer flying at you

"These guys tear it up! With the strange yet exciting combination of Klezmer and Jazz in a whirl wind of notes. For anyone who is interested in Jazz, Klezmer or even a little funk this is a must. Also check out their other CDs and Galactic which has Ben Ellman (sax) and their origional drummer Stanton More. Also check Stanton's CD featuring Ben."
