Perfect followup!!
11/08/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Serenity is a perfect followup to this band's oh so popular first single Vast, which is still stirring up the electro dance floors both in the US and abroad. While the original track may not be suited for dance floor, it is a perfect example of what NCS is about-- they write songs, plain and simple. Perhaps this very important element is what might set them apart from a good deal of the rest of the genre's known as synthpop or electronica or the latest "fad du-jour" electroclash. Serenity has what we have come to expect from the robert's -- beautiful vocals and synth textures, great lyrics... and yet, the typical four on the floor kick is absent!!!Intuition and Dream Traveler offer an interpretive take on the single, each in a contrasting light, yet utilizing the more traditional synth tools... that's right, these are club friendly. Then comes the "Fall" -- Axis of Good remix (wonder where they got that name from....) which is a complete 180 from the original track on the full-length. Here the guys effectively take an emotional ballade and transform it to a pulsing, club shakin' wink at the (do I dare use the silly word again?) "electroclash" fad. Somehow they pull it off and the song sparkles with intensity. I hope they keep remixing both their songs and maybe other artists as their talent for this sort of thing is well established."Allo, Wanda!" The "Serenity -- Mr. Manfredjenjensessendoniubd Remix" (forgive the spelling)is a tight invention of the rich chorus and it evokes a kind of vintage flair that should please the newbies and the retros alike. What it has to do with "A Fish Called Wanda" is beyond me.All in all a wonderful maxi-single release."
