Synopsis

Album Description
Their music crosses over rock blues and soul in such a way that they alone can perform, write and produce. "Songs to move your body mind and soul." The band had its first big break with their moving interpretation of Going to California on the platinum selling Led Zeppelin tribute album "Encomium" swiftly followed by the release of their 1995 self-titled album "Never the Bride" on the Atlantic label in the USA. Since then they have sold records all around the world.Their live following has gone from strength to strength following performances around the world from supporting The Who at Wembley arena to ZZ Top in Sydney Australia, a spot on the Plant and Page gig at The Forum in Los Angeles as well as shows in their own right in the UK, Europe and the USA. They have toured with other rock greats such as Alice! Cooper, Peter Frampton, Paul Rogers, Gary Brooker of Procol Harem and Roger Daltry when they kicked off their tour of England and Europe at The Royal Albert Hall as guests on The Rock Symphony Tour. A recent addition to this list is sharing the stage with the Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders here in the UK. To promote their new album, the band is about to embark on a 50-date tour with Ex Marilion front man Fish, taking in all the all the major cities in Europe. For the first time in their career, Never the Bride have had the recording freedom to produce an album free from commercial restraints. The result being "Surprise" - a powerful fusion of songwriting and performance, blending rock, soul and rolling melodies. The album was mainly written and recorded in Australia and is Never The Bride's most recent album and also their most accomplished and mature work to date.

CD Reviews

Some decent material, but not as strong as the debut
D. Isley | 07/03/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I had no idea this band was still around until surfing around I found this release in addition to their debut. Having had the debut since it was released back in the 90's and knowing how solid it is, I bought this without having heard a track. I agree with the other reviewer that states the strengths here really lie with vocalist Nikki Lamborn. The material and production actually sound as if this was demoed together over several sessions and possibly years. Nikki's voice is still very much first rate, but the songwriting on many songs is not the caliber of the debut record. Especially frustrating is the songs sung by Catherine "Been" Feeney which to me are not very good at all. Maybe the other reviewer is right in stating Nikki might be better off to start over with a new band/songwriter. 3 stars mostly for Nikki's vocal performances."

"NTB is THE greatest band NEVER heard! If you love good old fashioned ROCK music, this is the band for you. Nikki Lamborn and company send chills up my spine. Nikki IS the rebirth of Janis Joplin. ROCK ON NTB!!!"
10 for Nikki, 2 for her material

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Nikki Lambourn is a world class singer. Who could doubt it hearing her sing virtually anything..and I've heard her sing everything from the blues to ballads to out and out rock. I caught her series of shows in the late very lamented Old Profanity Showboat when she worked with the late very lamented Vivian Stanshall. God, those were concerts! But ever since, it's her material that lets her down. Year after year...time passes, and the songs she works with aren't good enough. The music isn't good enough. They aren't true to who she is. Nikki could be a legend if she'd get out of that band, get away from her song writer, stand alone, and sing about what she really knows about--her own fierce heart."
