Synopsis

Album Description
Sister Holler is Nerissa and Katryna's fourteenth album to date, and it brings them back to their folk roots while at the same time showcasing their growth as musicians and songwriters. The premise of the album is that Folk music has always been passed down orally, and as such, it changes with each generation of singers and songwriters. Each song was inspired by a pre-existing song: there's a revised version of the old spiritual, 'Ain't That Good News', a modern sea chanty - even a version of Pachelbel's Canon in D. ''Best of all,'' quips Nerissa, ''this CD is green: reduce, reuse and recycle is its motto. There are plenty of great old songs out there; why write new ones?'' That being said, there is plenty here that is new and fresh - long time Nields fans will not be disappointed and this CD is sure to garner The Nields a whole new generation of listeners. Produced by Dave Chalfant.

CD Reviews

A journey well worth taking!

"This remarkable album returns the Nields sisters to their roots with a journey through the folk tradition that takes us from the mountains to the delta, across the sea to the Celtic country-side and back again. By far my favorite song along the way is "Ain't That Good News." It lifts my spirits every time I hear it.

All the songs on the album borrow heavily from traditional folk keystones, but the combination of Nerrisa's elegant singing and song-writing and Katryna's sumptuous voice transform these songs into what can only be described as a modern, folk, roots voyage that is on the verge of being on the great folks albums. On the chance that it is, add it to your collection.

"I first heard of the The Nields when I listened to them at a concert over 10 years ago. They were clearly the crowd favorite. I have been a fan ever since. I don't even have to listen to one track before buying their CD. I love every one. Their music always reminds me of sitting out in the evenings on the back porch in the summer."
Every song on this is a gem!

"I've enjoyed all of Nerissa and Katryna's solo albums, but Sister Holler is the best. From the first listen, I fell in love with every song. Probably because of their reliance on earlier songs and forms, they're familiar but each also brings something new. Listening to the album lifts me up and gives me hope and sometimes makes me cry. A truly beautiful piece of art."
