More enjoyable music from this versatile Italian sextet

"For their sophomore album, "Strumenti," Neri Per Caso add instrumental accompaniment that compliments the beauty of their voices. Like their platinum-selling, debut CD "Le Ragazze," this album again features catchy melodies and rich, textured vocal arrangements. Even listeners who don't understand a word of Italian will find themselves singing along with the Ciro, Diego, Gonzalo, Mario, Massimo, and Mimì (the inclusion of the lyrics makes that somewhat easier). "'A Citta' 'E Pulecenella," sung in the dialect of Naples/Salerno, is a particular delight; "Improvvisando" comes across as an expression of the joy that these guys have making their music; and "La Segretaria" even incorporates the "beep, beep, beep, beep... yeah!" from the Beatles' "Drive My Car." While lacking some of the energy and freshness of "Le Ragazze," on the whole, "Strumenti" is a more polished effort that still demonstrates the versatility of Neri Per Caso as a six-man pop vocal group."

"What will come from a a capella group doing an album called "Instrument". No good enough stuff...Since this is Neri per Caso's second album we may guess they thought: "OK, our first album was a hit, now let's move to be a normal pop group." But the result was a mediocre pop album. With the exception of two tracks, "Improvvisando" and "Perche' di Notte" that are almost a capella, the rest is plain italian-pop, so there is nothing special with this album. For the real Neri per Caso go with the first album (Le Ragazze) and their fourth self-titled album."
