Synopsis

Album Description
Marinated in influences as mind-splintering as the mushroom folk/rock blast of the Jefferson Airplane as well as the feel-good pristine pop of the Turtles, the Neighb'rhood Childr'n's one album trades hands these days for sums usually mentioned in ransom notes. We've added a dozen unreleased brownies, spun gold from the original session tapes and Prof. Jud has squeezed the band's legend from vocalist Dyan Hoffman and guitarist Ric Bolz in this latest addition to the Dazed's acclaimed and essential Quakes From the Eureka State series.

CD Reviews

Long Psychedelic Trip Through Space
Robert Schell | Townsville, Texas | 05/19/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Neighb'rhood Childr'n were a fine late 60's heavy psych/rock rock band from Medford, Oregon. Their sound combined melodic folk rock with heavier, organ and fuzz-driven Doors/Iron Butterfly stylings. Dyan Hoffman is a great unsung female vocalist of the 60's, along with Sandi Robinson of Peanut Butter Conspiracy. Like PBC, Neighb'rhood Childr'n made effective use of interchanging male and female vocals. This c.d. has many excellent originals by the group, including "Feeling Zero," "Please please leave me alone" "Happy World of Captain K" and "Sunday Afternoon." There are also interesting covers of "Can't buy me love" "Louie Louie" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow," as well.

Neighb'rhood Childr'n - 'Long Years In Space' (Sundazed)

"Sole CD compilation release of this short-lived psychedelic / garage rock band that came from the small town of Medford,Oregon. All 24 tracks were recorded between 1967-68. Looks like their original lp on CD reissue with at least ten(10) bonus cuts. Definitely worth checking out. Tunes I was digging the most are "Feeling Zero", the title cut "Long Years In Space", "Please Leave Me Alone" (heard this song was an actual hit), their Yardbirds-influenced "Chocolate Angel", their Beatles cover "Can't Buy Me Love", "Tomorrow's Gone" and their unlikely track "Over The Rainbow". Line-up: Dyan Hoffman-keyboards&vocals, Rick Bolz-guitar&vocals, George Glen-bass and John Morrison-drums. Might appeal to fans of Jefferson Airplane, Touch, Moby Grape and possibly Love."
