"I'm a Rorem fan and I was happy to get this for Christmas. I put on this recording along with some Ginastera and David Lang and my family enjoyed Rorem's music the best. Each sonata is great, even the one that is "more modern". I would describe the music as "fancy", but it isn't too fancy of course. It actually sounded British to me and reminded me of York Bowen's piano works, of course Rorem and others say otherwise (French, Poulenc influenced). I will definitely get the next Rorem/Lanners recording when it comes out. If you are new to Ned Rorem, this is a great recording to start with (unless you love vocal songs, then check those out). People need to listen and play Rorem more often!"
