". . . Admittedly a tiny sub-genre. I'm thinking of folks who dig, e.g., Tucker Martine, Opiate, The Claudia Quintet, Mylab, Orchestra Dim Bridges, and perhaps Junk Genius.



What we've got here is whacked out electronic weirdness mapped onto a quasi-improv, New Music thing, with the occasional classical referent. Admittedly, not a lot of folks plying their musical trade in these precincts. There's a kind of attractive because not too self-conscious post-modern, deconstructionist aesthetic operative here. Hip, but not gloating, if ya know what I mean: Nathan Michel just wants to have fun, sorta like Brian Wilson, but a little more intentionally.



I suppose Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn mine this particular lode, but seldom this effectively. And Eyvind Kang. What sets this disc apart is its shear listenability. It's just, simply, irresistible.



Entirely worth checking out."
