CD Reviews

I BOUGHT IT FOR THE CD BOOKLET, YOU SHOULD BUY IT FOR THE CD

"An associate of mine who works at a printing facility suggested that I buy this for the cover art. I didn't know what to expect it to sound like, but I can say that this cd is one of the most original albums I've ever heard. There's only one or two songs I don't like so much, but the rest of the cd I really enjoy. And the more I listen to it the better it gets. As I write this track number four, one of the songs I didn't like that much, is playing on the speakers and I'm beginning to warm up to it. The lyrics on this album are amazing, and how they're interwoven into the art is beautifully done. I am very much inspired by the cd booklet design. One of my favorite lines of lyric is "Keeping track of what you say must get exhausting" from the first song "End Up", which seems to be about someone or something that is so corrupt that they have trouble remembering all the lies they've told; or at least that is how I interpret it. Sometimes the singing is hard to decipher and it reminds me of the Cocteau Twins. But the musical accompaniment is not like the Cocteau Twins. It is hard for me to explain how the music sounds, except to say that it is complex and requires many listens to digest. Most of the tunes are guitar based, but there are some sounds on this album that my friends who are musicians are not sure what could have made them. In the future I could be saying 5 stars, but for now I'm going to go with 4."

"Just one thing to say, this album is definitely ambitious, you are right there, but those of you who think you know anything about production......did you ever think that MAYBE IT'S SUPPOSED TO SOUND THAT WAY?!!! Just shut up and listen to the music!"
'whatever it meant' is a drug, and i am a junkie

"'whatever it meant' is a drug, and i am a junkie. i read on message boards and reviews about how great of a songwriter nate ruth is, but i don't care. i read about how great he is at making noise and i don't care even more. "the next my bloody valentine" and "the american radiohead in the form of one person" are not good comparisons. i couldn't even tell you why i like this cd so much, but it's not for the same reasons i like radiohead. i cannot describe the kind of head rush i get from listening to 'whatever it meant', and i refuse to make an idiot out of myself trying to. this cd is not for everyone, but i am hooked."
