Familiar yet unique

"Nagisa Ni Te ("On the Beach") are one of the strongest folk-rock inspired psychedelic bands of Japan. Well known in the community, and underrated as well, I feel.

The band has multiple albums, which are all great singer/songwriter pieces of music (having both male and female vocals), but I feel this is the best introduction album.

Immediately, the opening track drags the listener in. The lyrics are simple ("Here I am, on the beach/On the beach, here I am") and the acoustic guitar is soothing at first. It crescendo's into a concoction of sounds that is sure to put a bell curve on your audio visualization.

Mostly all of the album is familiar, but the "worldly" aspect gives it a new flavor, a new culture in which to be listened too. It's obviously influenced by 60's/70's folk and psychedelic rock (do I hear a Beatles sample, here?), but the rhythms of the Japanese language seem to give it something that merits multiple listens to appreciate. It's deeper than one listen.

For those not familiar with World (or japanese) music, I'd highly recommend this. It's theoretically very western, and doesn't incorporate that many sounds that a westerner wouldn't recognize (and be turned off by).

It's a rewarding listen, and a promising band that has a clear direction, vision that isn't overshadowed by difficult concepts or experimentation. Anyone open-minded baby boomer will probably love this, and is something you'll probably have trouble telling you friends about.

Highly recommended!"
