Synopsis

Mutiny UK's Dylan Barnes and Rob Davy have fulfilled the promise of previous singles with their full-length debut, In the Now. As the opening "Midnight Lady" sees the studio machinery setting out the Mutiny UK mission statement to the whirring, buzzed, and bleeped background, club favorite "Secrets" rolls out an inescapable filtered bass-line groove. Throw in a scattering of schizophrenic cuts, which range from the Flat Eric dance-floor skanks of "The Virus" right through to Davy's bizarre love walrus theme, which somehow jumps the fence to land in the arrangement of "The Pornstar," and the resultant album is an ever-diverse, uptempo disco rocker. --Kingsley Marshall

(3 out of 5 stars)

"as the sticker reads on the CDs front, "If you like the Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk, you'll love Mutiny UK!" They speak true, although i would've left the Daft Punk part off. Very much on the same path as the Jaxx, this CD more rigidly follows the path than does there counterparts (who seem more prone to stray a little farther towards either side of the musical spectrum). If it was possible i would've given this 3.5 instead of 3. the album seems to divide its time between some great filtered, quirky house tracks and lush ("Kip Da Kik Bouncin'"), vocal-laden beats ("Doin' Me Right"). A solid outing with some great instrumentation and programming, and it would definitely get some bodies movin' on the dancefloor."
