A bit of a letdown.

"I purchased this album a while ago and yes, I am a just a little disapointed. This is by far the worst cd Mustard Plug has put out. There funky vocals and "skankin" feel is just gone. This album is really leaning toward the pop-ska category instead of just plain ska. This is no Big Daddy Multitude or Evildoers Beware so don't get your hopes up, and no MP didn't sell out.



Now for the highlights of the album. There are some decent tracks on here, "Not Enough", "Get It Goin On." But this album is less than 30 MINUTES!!!!! That is ridiculous since Mustard Plug took three years to make this after Pray For Mojo. Another good part about this cd is that there is not a bad track, you can listen to it all the way through.



I guess this album isn't that bad, but why did they change? People who loved Evildoers Beware might like this, but nothing can top Big Daddy Multitude."

A solid offering

"Now, around my area, many consider Mustard Plug somewhat decent (i mean, those who aren't MTV zombies think so). These same people criticize Less Than Jake for, essentially, copying their chords. While I won't deny they are quite similar, I still like both bands.That said, this album is still solid. The horn players have a bright, solid tone, and they sound awesome. The guitar playing isn't especially creative, but gets the job done, and does it well. The drums on this album aren't good or bad especially, they simply fit the songs well, especially during faster songs. I am a new Mustard Plug fan, and though I did enjoy this album, the songs did sound somewhat the same. Still, the album is a good one, and any Mustard Plug fan wouldn't hate it, though as reviewers here and some of my friends say, Evildoers Beware sounds to be a better choice.Less Than Jake, while similar, maintains seperation from Mustard Plug with the lead singer's singing, as well as the theme's behind the songs. Less Than Jake tends to be a bit more humorous, whilst Mustard Plug focuses more on concrete issues, like people's secrets and eating out of people's palms (I Got It, You Need It).A solid purchase for any ska fan. Whether you hate Less Than Jake or not, if you call yourself a ska fan, you can do worse."

"Mustard Plug aren't trying to reinvent the wheel on "Yellow #5"; they just keep making better and better music. They are funny and talented and need some exposure. This is another solid outing that continues the path charted on previous albums. "Not Enough," the strongest track here, is a good representative statement with a catchy, pop-punk chorus underpinned by rousing horns. Meanwhile "Get It Goin' On" leans more to the frenetic punk side of things, the only tip of the hat to Ska being the arbitrary presence of horns. The anthemic "Just a Minute," with its euphoric chorus is another highlight, as is the more punked-up "Safe." This is there best Cd yet!"
