"This budget-line CD, from the most recent version of the EMI Seraphim series, reissues classic American Ballet performances by Robert Irving and the Concert Arts Orchestra. Originally made for Capitol and released in the late 1960s on vinyl, these are breathtaking performances of Copland's "Appalachain Spring" and Four Dance Episodes from "Rodeo," and Bernstein's "Facsimile" and "Fancy Free." In his day, Robert Irving was regarded as one of the world's leading ballet conductors, and his now out-of-print recordings of Tchaikovsky and Glazunov are quite special. While it's hard to argue against the composers themselves conducting these works (or Bernstein conducting Copland for that matter), at this price you can afford to own them all."
