CD Reviews

Not *exactly* complete...

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Murder Inc is basically the post-punk band Killing Joke with a different singer, Chris Connelly. Connelly is very popular around the industrial music scene, performing with Ministry, RevCo, KMFDM, The Final Cut, Pigface, Bill Rieflin, Acid Horse, PTP....I could go on and on. He also has a trio of solo albums. The first disc is Murder Inc's only album plus one track from the Corpuscle EP. The second disc is remixes from the Corpuscle EP plus five live songs and the worthless "The Joke That Kills", which isn't a song, just band members talking. The first disc is fantastic. The duel drummers combined with Geordie Walker's guitar are truly explosive. Fans of Killing Joke will enjoy this very much. The second disc doesn't fare as well. The remixes aren't very good and the guitars are barely audible on the live songs. A shame. This collection is not as "complete" as the title indicates: Paul Barker's superior remix of "Motion Sickness" is missing. So is "Last Of The Biomechanical Urgents", which is a better remix than the ones included here. (Both these tracks are available on the Murder Inc album release on the Futurist label, not the Invisible Records version. Confusing, isn't it! ) My recommendation? Get this compilation, but also get the Futurist version of the album for the whole picture."
A killing joke album, plus...

"There are so many members of Killing Joke in this band, it's almost absurd that it's recorded under a different name.

With that said, it's a terrific 2-CD set. It's got Chris Connelly singing his poetically dizzying lyrics, 3 guys from KJ and two drummers...one of them being Martin Atkins. Recorded mostly in 1992-93, it culminates the sounds of all the guys who've come together. It is missing a few remixed gems, but it's a great compilation of their only album, plus some extra remixes and live recordings. It's a must have if you're in to Pigface or KJ...in 2000 these guys got together again under the name THE DAMAGE MANUAL and put out two awesome CD's...if you get this and like it, get those two discs, too."
