The piano concerto was his true medium, and anyone looking for masterpieces along the lines of his last six symphonies among the earlier works will be disappointed. Four stars instead of five because the two best-known, and, in my opinion, best symphonies from this period, Nos. 25 and 29, are on another disc. Mozart was incapable of writing boring or poorly-crafted music, of course, so the four symphonies here are fine pieces; they just aren't, in my opinion, up to the level of Nos. 25 and 29."
