"Mozart Requiem (1791) ... Miriam Nemcova ... Silva Screen M
J. Lovins | Missouri-USA | 11/06/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Silva Screen Music America presents "Mozart Requiem" - featuring this new production recorded in Prague, the city of Mozart's greatest commercial success Don Giovanni --- Performed by Mozart and Baroque music specialists The Praga Sinfonietta and the Vox Prague Choir under the expert direction of Miriam Nemcova, the sound achieved is seductive, warm and lush, but with dark and edgy undertones, perfectly "in tune" with music, myth and Mozart himself --- Composed in 1791, The Requiem Mass in D Minor (K 626) was Mozart's last composition and is one of his most powerful and recognized works --- Over the past two centuries, the circumstances surrounding the creation of Mozart's Requiem have entered popular mythology and have given rise to romantic exaggerations and wild speculation.

Miriam Nìmcová (Conductor)

Miriam Nemcova began her conducting career at the age of sixteen with amateur choirs. After graduating from Prague Conservatory and the Prague Academy of Music in conducting and composition, she began working with professional ensembles, namely the Suk Chamber orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Hradec Kralove Philharmonic, the Czech Radio Choir, and Prague Philharmonic Choir.

She continued her postgraduate studies under Prof. Rilling at the Bach Academy in Stuttgart and later in Paris. Upon her return she worked with opera companies in Prague and Liberec.

In 1993, following her successful presentation of Verdi's Otello with the Ostrava Opera, she was offered a position of a chorus master and conductor with the Prague State Opera. Since 1995 she has teached conducting at the Prague Conservatory and served as director of its symphony orchestra.

Miriam Nemcova's recent engagements include artistic directorship of the Praga Sinfonietta and the Vox Pragae Choir. Since 2001 she has been Conductor of the Hradec Kralove Philharmonic.

Hats off to Silva Screen Music America --- strongly recommend this CD for all music lovers and all others who need to hear some great music --- Miriam Nemcova (Conductor), The Praga Sinfonietta Orchestra (a Philharmonic of 25 musicians) and The Vox Pragae Choir (a choir of 20 musicians), please stand up and take a bow for this well deserved rare gem you've given us --- this is a keeper!
