Synopsis

Album Description
People that love to make music make a choice at a certain point in their lives. They can go either of two ways: they can make it a hobby, or they can make it a life. Making a life of it requires a lot of commitment, sacrifice and will to follow what you want. For five guys from the Long Island hardcore scene, the choice was pretty obvious. "We all quit our jobs and school to tour basically full time," says Vinny Caruana, The Movielife's singer and lyricist. "It's all we wanna do." The band, along with guitarist Alex Amiruddin, bassist Phil Navetta, drummer Evan Baken and new addition Brandon Reilly on guitar, has taken some serious strides since it's inception in the summer of 1997. They've toured the country three times, flanked the East Coast a number of times, and have become a mainstay in their hometown scene- all without the help of a booking agent or an ex-members tagline. It all started with a couple of demos which the band sold while touring. Then, a track on a comp and the band's first full-length on Fadeaway Records, 'It's Go Time', started to catch them some attention from all over. The band recently recorded and released a split 7"/CD EP with Ex-Number Five, their 'Self-Destruct' 7" just came out on Initial Records, and now this full-length for Revelation, 'This Time Next Year'. Recorded with producer Brian McTernan (Cave-In, Snapcase, In My Eyes), 'This Time Next Year' is an solid mix of hardcore, pop, and indie-rock that blends the catchiest parts of all three genres. McTernan has recorded a number of bands over the years at his famed Salad Days Studios, yet he has high praise for The Movielife- "They're one of the most promising new bands I've ever worked with." McTernan isn't alone. Kids all over the country are hyping up The Movielife as one of the best up-and-coming bands to look out for. The band isn't just looking for instant recognition though; they remember what brought the passion to them in the first place, and they want to bring it to the kids who are looking for it now. "I know when I listen to a great band," says Caruana, "I get the chills. If I can do that to someone, that is fuckin' sick."

"I first got addicted to Movielife after seeing them open for New Found Glory about a year ago. They are getting big! wahoo they deserve it! They're cd titled, "This Time Next Year" is full of energy and fun. All of the songs on the cd are good, I especially like "Single white female", "pinky swear", "once in a row", "its monday and raining", "10 seconds too late" and "Another Friend". I went to go see them 2 months ago at Toads Place and they were opening for H20, but I only went to see them. They are the nicest people and a talented band. Buy the cd. You won't regret it."

"Although i love virtually everything that the movielife put out, this cd remains my favorite. i have been listening to this since it came out (thats over 3 years). it really is that good. this cd is packed with energy, but still is able to keep its pop sensibility. this came before the movielife moved on to bigger things (drive thru records) so it still has that natural, stripped down feel. its not overproduced, it just plain rocks. if you listen to punk, hardcore, pop-punk, or just plain rock you should definetly buy this cd. the movielife was a great band and it was hard to see them go."

"This is a bad ass cd that which in an effect is great. Tell you about it I shall, this album rips ass it kills. This the second LP by the Movielife and argueably thier best. They have a masterful desire to mix old school, punk and pop which is pulled off excitivly. Anyways let's get to the songs, tops are Single White Female, Another Friend, This time next year and so on. The biggest and best thing that I loved about the movielife (and one of the things that seperated them from such contemporaries as New Found Glory and others) is the passion in which Vinnie sings his songs. He is honestly one of the best vocalists I have ever heard and was capable of crafting this band in such a incrediable mix of emotion, music and catchiness. This album is so catchy it just rocks, buy it for my humble words possess not the ability to objectivly review this record. In other words there is such an emotional level that I'm connected on this record. I've had many good times seeing the movielife, I have had many good times singin' along with these guys buy this record and be sad that they broke up."
