A VERY STRONG RECORDING
TheHighlander | Richfield, PA United States | 05/05/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the first Mountain Heart recording and oh what a job they have done! Although this group is new, the members have been around playing in bands such as Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Third Tyme Out and Ramblers Choice among others. They have come together to form another of the future great bands in bluegrass. Once again, showing those who worry about the future of bluegrass, need not worry. There are 11 tracks on this CD and all are very good. From the opening sounds this CD carries you right on through to the end. You will not find one song that fails to tell a great story and do it well. My favorites include "Cold Winds", "Taney County", "Cold Kentucky Rain" "Gamblers Lament", and the fine gospel song "Patching It Up". Their harmonies and Steve Gulley's fine tenor voice are excellent. The instrumental breaks are very strong. These boys have chops - playing bluegrass the way it should be played. If you like bluegrass this is a CD that should be high on your list. If you are not sure about bluegrass - buy this one and you will be a life long listener. This is what it's all about!"
Groundbreaking

"Mountain heart is more than a breath of fresh air, the music is clean and clear. "The Gambler'" takes you out west and you feel as though you're sitting among a group of cowboys, waiting for the next move. Just as I am awaiting the arrival of the next CD and the one after that..."
