"This is the worst quality live recording I've ever heard. The great packaging of this cd lured me in to buying it. When I put this in the player it was virtually unlistenable. I've heard some very bad live bootlegs that sounded better than this one. It's a shame great songs like "Sweet Angeline" and "Darkness Darkness" had to go to waste. Pass on this and get their BBC live album. My copy of this one's going back to the used cd bins."

Terrible sound quality

"I'm been a Mott the Hoople fan since 1970 and have lived with the various "ups and downs" relating to this band and their history. Unfortunately, this CD is one of the "downs", but not specifically because of the group's performance, and certainly not because of the packaging of the CD. The big problem here is the basic content of the CD: the sound quality. The original taping was made on a cassette recorder that was set on top of the mixing board, but not connected to it. Thus, what we have would basically be considered an "audience recording," and it's no better than average bootleg sound quality, despite professional efforts to clean up and equalize the sound. It's a real shame too, because there is very little live material by the original MTH lineup. The CD packaging is very good, the liner notes are good, and the performances by the band are OK but not great, either. I found the sound quality punishing to listen to on headphones and tolerable but difficult to enjoy through the speakers. I just can't recommend this CD, but would highly recommend "The Original Mixed-Up Kids" CD, which is BBC live material in good sound quality and great performances."
