CD Reviews

I don't what this is, but it sure does rock!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"First off, LeFay is a band that refuses to be classified. There are elements of just about every genre of metal here that I can think of, short of black or death metal. Part of the album simply rips, like the dual opener "The Whore of Babylon" and "Symphony of the Damned," and "War Without End." There's an instrumental ("The Secret Doctrine") that hearkens to the Bay Area thrash sound of the 80s, and even made this reviewer think Exodus was back. There's plenty of galloping, chugging riffing going on, and some nifty drumming to go with it.The singer's voice leaves a little bit to be desired (it's simply not my style), but it fits this music well. It's somewhere between operatic and Glenn Danzig, if you can imagine such a thing. There's a flat-out Motorhead or AC/DC-ish jam called "Tequila," which actually features some funny lyrics, and there's a couple of slowed down grooves, almost doomish in nature. So if variety is what you're after, this album's got plenty of it. Upon further review, I think I figured out what kind of music this is...it's metal! Just plain, straight old heavy metal! Hot damn! If you like your guitars heavy and loud, and your riffs speedy and chugging, your drumming punishing and well, vocals at all, this is a good release for you. If you're into N'Sync, or something like that, well, go elsewhere."
