CD Reviews

Essential to all die-hard Morbid Angel fans

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is Morbid Angel's first official demo/release and I must say it is very impressive. However, one must be prepared that this is not entirely the streamlined Morbid Angel we have today, but a young band who had been together just three years. Most of the songs on here are re-recorded on other albums, but you just have to hear this if you love this band. Mike Browning, who was once in the godly Nocturnus, plays drums and sings (which he did on Nocturnus' "The Key"), so it sounds quite different. The guitars sound similar to Venom, and you can definatly tell that this is really old stuff. If not great for the time it was recorded (1986), it is an interesting listen."
Good for a demo

"I must say about this album (demo) that it sounds AWESOME for a demo. It is clean, everything is audible, and it does the young band justice.

It is good to hear all of the original songs on here:

The Invocation/Chapel of Ghouls and The Gate/Lord of All Fevers and Plague sound better with the introductions than off of Altars of Madness! The only complaint I have is that Demon Seed isn't on any of the other albums (and Angel Corpse's cover sounds WAY better).

I like this a lot. It is better than most band's re-releases of old material. Worth it for Morbid Angel fans and even some newcomers."

"This is what Morbid sounded like in 86' with the lead singer from yet another fine FL Death band NOCTURNUS...you hear alot of the original cuts from this great band..mandatory for fans! You also hear a song never released on other albums.."DEMON SEED" and some 1st versions of songs like the "Ancient Ones" first named "Azagthoth" very interesting album!"
