Synopsis

Album Description

2010 release, the seventh album from the veteran British Post Punk band. With Soundtrack, the band has created their most consistent album since their 1982 breakthrough album After The Snow. Filled with shadows and light, the album remains fresh and modern while adding a retro flourish to the proceedings. Their classic album After the Snow featured what became a radio/club mega-hit and MTV staple, 'I Melt with You', which was used in the film Valley Girl, in more than one TV advertisement and became the flagship track on the popular Nouvelle Vague covers album.

"Modern English has its sound back. Soundtrack is a fantastic flashback to strong songwriting, guitar playing, and synth sounds that made the 80's alternative rock scene so great. The difference is that Soundtrack hardly sounds dated... it sounds modern, fresh, and a strong release that will hopefully lead to more of the same from Modern English. I would say don't just buy this if you found "Melt with You" one of your favorite memory inducing songs. Buy this if you are into just about any current indie-alternative rock. Then go back and listen to After the Snow. You will probably discover that "one hit wonder" should never have been applied to Modern English."

"I don't write long reviews so I'll just start off by saying give this a listen. There are some really great pop songs on here as well as some mildly psychedelic excursions. Robbie Grey's vocals are impressive and the return of Hugh Jones makes for an interesting link to the group's earlier releases. This is undoubtedly the best Modern English album since After the Snow."
