Linker's solo debut is a departure from the slickly produced, super poppy Day Traders album he'd done in 2004. If anything, it's a return to the sound of his previous band, The Dent, but with fewer guitars, more keyboards, and a little more maturity. The pop structure is still there and hooks abound, but with less studio polish and production bombast. The songs pay an obvious homage to Linker's musical heroes of yesterday and today - Rufus Wainwright, Paul Simon, Elton John, REM, the Jayhawks, Neil Finn, Fountains of Wayne, Elvis Costello and Michael Penn are all in there. It's a warm, low key, intimate record, dominated by ballads and (for him) minimalistic production.
