CD Reviews

A Musical Treat
Dolores L. Kindl | New York State | 12/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A real musical treat for fans of Mireille Mathieu. This 2 CD treasure brings show tunes and movie themes performed with classic style by Mireille. Great orchestrations and the wonderful voices of the chorus add to the performance of MM on many of the offerings. Enjoy some songs in English too! Add this to your collection now. It's showtime!!!"
Mireille is the best.Yet another great album.

"I discovered Mireille Mathieu many years ago when I was a boy.I bought one of her records for 50 cents at a second-hand shop.I've been a fan ever since, even though I don't speak fluent French and have not studied it.

Mireille has been a catalyst in generating an interest in France.I've been there 3 times now.

This album is full of upbeat songs with Mireille's unique interpretations. If you are a fan,you will definitely like this.

It has been said that Mireille filled the musical void left by Piaf's death.Personally I think she did a lot more than that-but I am biased.Mireille is my favourite singer!Recommended."
Wonderful 2 CD Set
P. R. Price | Dayton, Ohio | 09/05/2008

""Films et Shows" is a two CD set with one containing songs from films and one containing songs from shows. Each CD contains 18 songs in this deluxe version, and 15 songs in the standard version. Both collections have great merit. (Note: The deluxe version has red borders on the right and left side of the front cover, while the standard version has black borders.) Ms. Mathieu has been noted for recording hit songs from movies since early in her career (the late 1960's), so it is no surprise that the "Movie" CD is briming with good songs, but she also shows her versatility by singing showtunes exceptionally well. Consequently, these are very good CDs. Three of the songs are even in English. Additionally, Ms. Mathieu's well known respect for Judy Garland is also well represented in the CDs. She sings "Over the Rainbow" in English, and "Chante Alleluia" ("Sing Hallelujah"),"Trolley Song", "Vive la Musique" ("I've Got Rhythm") in French. She also sings French versions of "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee". Before you scoff at these two songs, I must tell you that they are exceptional. The arrangements meld the talents of Ms. Mathieu, the supporting singers, and the orchestra to achieve incredible results on both songs. So, there are many great songs on these CDs, but there is only one best song. "Un jour, tu reviendras" (the theme from "Once Upon a Time in the West" with French lyrics as the movie theme had no lyrics) is a masterwork which tests the extremes of Ms. Mathieu's notable vocal range. It is emotional dynamite, even if you do not speak French. Her voice in this song can draw tears even if you do not know the meaning of the words she sings. Truly an amazing performance on a very difficult song to sing."
