CD Reviews

Shows how great she is!

""Numero Double" has all of Mireille's finest and most beautiful songs. It's a collection of new and old hits. It's really touchy listening to her sing "Reste avec Moi"... Simply Marvelous!"
MIREILLE THE TECHNIQUE WAS ALWAYS THERE

"I must be honest, iwas never a big fan of MIREILLE MATHIEU even if my sister forced me to listen to her.But you know how life goes sometimes, time runs and some of the things you used to hate seems to need a new reveluation.I still think however that MIREILLE is all technique;when she sings it's hard to feel anything.Knowing all those songs from the original vinyl albums my sister used to have, i must however recommand that 2 cd collection to all her fans because the choice of songs is perfect. From the beginning in 1966 they are all there:LA DERNIERE VALSE and ACROPOLIS ADIEU are well suited to her voice.I personally prefer MIREILLE's early songs(66-75) but it is a matter of taste."
Classy French lady sings brilliantly

"I'm surprised this is marked Limited availability at the time of this review - it's not only still available from Amazon France, but it sells well there, judged on the sales ranking it gets. So, this is really quite easy to find, and it's certainly worth the effort, if you don't mind that Mireille sings in French. She's also recorded in German, but they are on separate compilations.Mireille has been popular in mainland Europe since she first made an impact in the sixties. She has a strong, expressive voice, which I can enjoy even though I don't understand French. You will recognise at least some of the songs from their English versions, as it includes French versions of Always on my mind (Elvis), Woman in love (Barbra Streisand), The last waltz and Les bicyclettes del Belsize (both Engelbert Humperdinck), When a child is born (Johnny Mathis), I'm coming home (Tom Jones), Unbreak my heart (Toni Braxton), Memory (Elaine Paige) and New York New York. Most of the songs here are French originals, but Mireille has such a lovely voice, it doesn't matter not knowing the words.Mireille is a world-class singer who deserves to be better known in Britain and America, but most people in our two great nations like everything to be in English, and it's their loss."
