CD Reviews

Some of the most beautiful music in existence

"This is the collaboration of two great talents who are unfortunately no longer with us: Minnie and Charles Stepney. Stepney's gorgeous production of jazzy bossanova and lush strings are a perfect fit for Minnie's angelic voice. The songs are at once romantic, dramatic, engaging, relaxing, joyful, and sweetly sad...similar to Bacharach, but different. The best way I can describe this sound is progressive easy listening -- but even that's unfair. This is music that is a far cry from Minnie's later hit-driven work. It is music to come home to relax to. It is music to chill out to with a special one. It is music to challenge your way of thinking (the trippy lyrics). When I first heard this album I was with my special one on a rainy weekend we had together. It was a perfect soundtrack to a perfect time. But even apart from that personal association, "Come To My Garden" is a timeless piece of work that belongs in your collection."

"after recording a few albums with her racially mixed band called the rotary connection, the beautiful sweet minnie riperton steps out on her own in late 1969 to go solo for awhile 2 record this beautiful heavenly angelic album from her heart entitled "come to my garden"/the beautiful cover shot of the beautiful singer alone with the beautiful garden of green landscape is just letting you know in advance that the beauty of sound is awaiting for you.from start to finish, this album will have your heart beating in places that you never knew existed.it will put you in a supperclub mood,it will bring warm feelings,it will put you in a romantic mood,it is also beautifully sad.when minnie sings on the title track-'come to my garden'it will make you love and respect the earth in all of it's regal beauty.other highlights on this beautiful album include the opening track 'les fleur'/the hauntingly beautiful'completeness'in of which minnie opens the song with her sweet operatic octave voice/the soft and pretty 'memory band'/the beautifully gorgeous 'close your eyes and remember'/ the beautifully soft beat of 'oh,by the way'and the exquisite 'only when i'm dreaming'/words cannot describe how beautiful this album really is.it has lush arrangements and gorgeous orchestrations combined with minnie's sweet delicate voice.a truly beautiful one of a kind.beautifully haunting and enchanting.(with tunes co-written by earth, wind&fire's maurice white and the late charles stepney.produced by charles stepney)"
