CD Reviews

Untouchable....
L. Pszenitzki | Redding, CT United States | 08/31/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"MINK delivers infectious beats, towering riffs, pronounced rhythms, kicking bass and creative lyrical phrasing with catchy hooks to satisfy your musical tastes and set your feet to dancing.

Twelve top notch tunes grace MINK's first release with danceable tunes "Get It Right" and "Dematerialize" to softer songs "Crazy World" and "Will Not Let You Down". Also hidden amongst one of the other tunes is an "Easter egg" of a bonus song.

While formed about a mere 18 months ago, this Aussie - American band offers up fare usually served by groups that have been together much longer. You'll be surprised by the polished sound of the debut album by MINK. And by polished I don't mean over produced.

Neal Carlson's vocals range from gravelly to crisp to a bluesy tone reminiscent of an early Mick Jagger.

Stella Mozgawa's powerful percussion skills are the perfect complement to Carlson's vocals and the other instrumentation.

Look for serious axe talent from Nick Maybury, especially on "Madame Chung" and "Talk To Me", their soon-to-be hit single (as well as the best ring tone ever).

Grant Fitzpatrick provides the rocking bass lines to accentuate the melody.

David Lowy (studio & live) and Louis Koster (live) alternately fill out the sound on rhythm guitar with amazing precision and skill.

You'll enjoy the freshman outing from MINK. Actually you'll love it! Plus this band throws down a party when they play live. So don't miss them when they roll through your town!

Call it what you will - Alt Rock, Indie, Pop, Rock, Power Pop - to me "it's only Rock n Roll and I LIKE it". Buy it and you'll like it too!

Think Mink

"Okay. This is good. The first half really gets it right - these guys (and a very talented gal) know what they're doing. There's a real rock throw-back here, but it isn't the same as all that Britpop that's infesting my playlists lately. And they aren't Jet or The White Stripes or The Strokes or The Black Keys. They're Mink. If you like that kinda stuff, however, this is your CD. True, clear entertainment. Since I bought it at a show a couple of weeks ago, I've listened to at least a dozen times. It is good, real good. Pop. Rock. Catchy. Original. Fun. Play loud."
