CD Reviews

Lookin' for some good country-rock?
DanD | 12/03/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Mike Walker symbolizes country music of the late 90's. His music is a great combination of country-rock that'll have your toes tappin' and your lips movin'.
I won't go into a detailed description of every song on here. I will give a brief overview, however. This debut album contains rockers--"Honey Do," "Who's Your Daddy," "I Want a Little More," "Long Long Kiss," "Rub It In," and "Mepmphis Women and Chicken." Thrown in are some smooth, easy ballads--"Stones in the Road," "This Is That," "See If I Care," "What Kind Of Love (penned by Roy Orbison)," "It's Too Late (penned by Son of the Desert Drew Womack)," "It's Just a Memory," and "Honey Love Me That Way." While I tend to appreciate the more upbeat and fun songs, the album's highlight has to be "If There's A Chance To Say I Love You" (penned by Walker), a moving, heartfelt ballad that could be about anything from a breakup to a death in the family (it is dedicated to the memory of Tim Morris and Greg Stroud, whose family names my seem familiar to many country fans). Walker also displays his songwriting talents on "I Want a Little More" and "Honey Love Me That Way." Maybe next time he'll write more stuff, because he is very good at it.
Mike Walker's CD, if given more publicity than it has been (I first saw a single copy of it hidden behind some Steve Wariner albums in a store) will become a major success. It has everything a hit record needs--women, fathers (in a sense), memories, chances, and southern fried chicken. Buy a copy and I guarentee it'll wind up getting a lot of use!"
