NOT WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK IT IS

"The record company wants you to believe this CD is comprised of "classic recordings" by the Mighty Diamonds. Most fans of reggae know that "classic" typically infers the period of reggae between the early seventies to early eighties. This is not the case with this CD. The CD is actually comprised of the Diamonds 1991 album "The Moment of Truth" with "pass the kouchie" and its alternate version "pass the knowledge" appended. The only other classic track here is "your heart's desire". It is the inclusion of these tracks that attempt to attract the attention of roots fans. These three tracks are indeed spectacular but only serve to show how much the rest of the material lacks. "Natural Thing" and "Come Tomorrow" are solid ballads and the rest of the Moment of Truth songs are standard early '90s pre-programmed, pseudo-dancehall fare. By no means are these songs horrible but this album was one rare instance where the Diamonds failed to fully shine. I love the Diamonds and wish their best material would be made available again. However, this is not it. If you are looking for classic material by these guys, try "Right Time", "Deeper Roots", "Stand Up to Your Judgement", "Tell Me What's Wrong", "The Roots is There", or "Revolution" (but be warned that Revolution is not an official release and the sound quality is a little lacking). If you are a fan of this band, join me in my efforts to get reggae labels to re-issue the bands earlier output. I am currently trying to get the "Pass the Kouchie", "Planet Earth" and "Changes" albums made available again."
