Synopsis

Album Description
The 3 track double A side single features 2 songs from Mick's 7th solo album due for release in May and to coincide with a tour across the UK. The title track is a blend of Hip-Hop rhythms, evangelical choirs, Jazz and catchy vocals, all brought together with a melodic and unpredictable bass line. " The alternative A side introduces the voice of new vocalist Bex Collins in a dark, moody setting with the surprising addition of fuzz bass guitars and a Gypsy violin.

""Of & About" is the leadoff single from Mick Karn's forthcoming album "Three Part Species". It consists of two tracks from the album ("Of & About" and "All You Have") and one b-side ("The Edge of Charm").

The title track is an intriguing blend-- hip hop beats, unintelligible processed voals, looped female vocal samples, saxophones, light piano lines and so on all sort of hinting at something when Karn's trademark milky bass comes in about halfway through, groaning and interweaving through the array of samples. "All You Have" is significantly more tame, featuring vocalist Bex Collins, it's a chugging, dark pop song full of groans and whispers, with Collins confidently striding on top of it. The b-side "Edge of Charm", available only here, is probably closest to Karn's "classic" sound-- a bass feature with a couple loops, it's bright and snappy with Karn proving as agile on bass as ever, inventive and full of ideas. It also features a well-constructed, noisy guitar solo that, if Karn performed it, is far better than anything I've heard by him on guitar.

All in all, "Of & About" is a nice teaser, but it's the album I'm after. Recommended for fans of Mick Karn's work-- you'll want this."
