Deviants - '3' + Mick Farren - 'Mona The Carnivorous Circus'

"'3' was the Deviants third and final lp,being originally released in 1969.Not QUITE as good as their 'Ptooff' album."Billy The Monster" shows off some wackiness from vocalist Mick Farren. Also liked "First Line","People Suite" and the instrumental "Broken Biscuits".Good guitar work by Paul Rudolph is notable through out the entire record.I noticed that "Rumbling Transit Blues" reminded me SO much of the Pink Fairies. That's probably because '3' has future Fairies members Rudolph, bassist Duncan Anderson and drummer Russell Hunter on it.I didn't know that until now.A great slice of classic underground psychedelia with a punkish blues edge.Tagged onto this well assembled import disc is Mick Farren's 1970 solo effort 'Mona The Carnivorous Circus' which, if you ask me could be considered the Deviant's fourth lp.More off the wall humor is provided by Farren.I dug the fifteen minute epic "Carnivorous Circus Part 2" the best.Noticed that Farren has some other players backing him on 'Mona The...' like Pink Fairies drummer Twink and Steve Hammond on guitar. For all you die hard collectors out there, these two titles are available seperately on Captain Trip, the Japanese label"
