Do Right By Me is the remastered and repackaged re-release of Michelle Wright's 1988 debut album. The original version of Do Right By Me was released on Savannah Records, the top Canadian country indie at that time, owned by Wright's manager, Brian Ferriman. The re-release marks the return of Ferriman and the Savannah imprint to the Canadian music scene and is the first in a series of projects which will feature Wright's music both old and new. The original Do Right By Me was a major hit in Canada, selling precisely 42,046 copies here before Savannah took it off the market in the mid-1990s. The original record gave Wright the first hits she ever had - no less than seven in Canada - and it led to her first U.S. record contract, still more hits, and a career that continues to bring her in front of big audiences. All seven of the hits from Do Right By Me still receive significant gold airplay on Canadian country radio, especially the album's three Top 10 singles: the title track, the AC crossover song "I Wish I Were Only Lonely," and Michelle's distinctive cover of Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently." The new Do Right By Me should be most welcome in the music library of every Canadian country radio station. The remastering brings the album sonically into the 21st century: Do Right By Me sounds even more crisp and fresh than it did the first time around. And the new version also includes a bonus track never before available on CD - a duet with the late Terry Carisse from 1987, the title cut of his album None Of The Feeling Is Gone. Since accepting her first award in 1989 Michelle Wright has walked on stage in music centres like Toronto and Los Angeles taking home another 31 awards. The Academy of Country Music, the Junos, MuchMusic and the Canadian Country Music Association all have honoured Wright over the years. With 25 Top Ten hits in her homeland (seven of which hit #1), 5 gold and 2 multi-platinum albums, record sales nearing 1,000,000 units in Canada alone, plus touring travel across North America and to Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Australia, Michelle Wright's career is one of which many artists only can dream.
