Great intro to Michele Zarrillo and to Italian pop

"I'm not too familiar with Italian pop, but I ordered this album as an adventure. Michele is a longtime performer (singer/songwriter) on the Italian scene according to Wikipedia, and this greatest hits collection appears to showcase some of his best, with updated versions of some of his best-known songs along with some new material. I speak French and Spanish, so some of the meaning of the songs is available to me. Even though my italian is weak, the lyrics seem strong. I could play "L'Alfabeto degli amanti" (The lovers' alphabet) a hundred times and not get tired of it - it is pure poetry set to music. "L'elefante e la farfalla" (The elephant and the butterfly) is another true gem. I'm looking forward to delving into this collection, understanding the words more clearly, and generally enjoying it over the long term. It is definitely not pop that you enjoy for a while and then forget."
