CD Reviews

Return To Earth is a great album!!
R. Bisson | Boston, MA, USA | 03/26/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Michale Graves' "Return To Earth" is a much different album than "Punk Rock Is Dead", which came out only one year earlier. Return To Earth is much more of an alternative album than was Punk Rock Is Dead, which was a straight up punk rock album. While Punk Rock Is Dead was very similar to the Misfits stuff, this album sees Michale branching out and finding his own niche. There is some very clear grunge influences on this album, very reminicent of Nirvana, like Fountains of Heroine, Nobody Thinks About Me, and also Butchershop, and those are quite possibly the best tracks on the album. The CD begins with Monster, which is a very cool song, pretty heavy, kind of a more hard rock sound to it. We Wait is a Ramones-esque punk rock song. One Moment Away is a very catchy, poppy, punk rock song. Fountains of Heroine is just an incredible track, Michale's voice just sounds incredible in this song, he really shows his vocal talent on this track. Creepy Crawly is very similar to the tracks on Punk Rock is Dead, it is a very fast and hard hitting punk rock song. Dead Beat has a very strange beat, and is more of a hard rock song. The beat is really low key, and the music to this song definitely has an old school Marilyn Manson feel to it. Nobody Thinks About Me is just an awesome song. The song is about the kids who went on the shooting spree at Columbine, and this song also has a very grunge rock sound to it. Michale's voice on this song is absolutely flawless, and it is a crime that Michale doesn't get more recognition for his talent, because he is truly one of the best rock n roll vocalists out there. This song starts out slow and then develops into a very fast punk rock song. The Best track on the album probably. The House is the next song and is a really cool punk song, somewhat similar to Punk Rock is Dead. The song is very catchy, fast, and short. Return to Earth is a very slow song, with piano accompaniment. It is a very beautiful song, Michale's voice once again shines. This song may turn off horror punk fans, but fans of Michale's voice will probably like this one. Butchershop is the last song on the album and definitely one of the best. Somewhat similar to Nobody Thinks About Me because it starts off slow and builds and builds until the end. Another very grunge, Kurt Cobain influenced song. The lyrics and vocals are really haunting in this song, and Michale shows how great his voice is once again. Overall, the album is very short like Punk Rock is Dead, but it is Extremely effective. The album is better than Punk Rock is Dead because there is a lot more variety in the songs than on Punk Rock is Dead. I think this is the Michale we are going to see in the future. This album is highly recommended to any Michale Graves fans, fans of the Misfits, fans of Nirvana, and fans of alternative rock in general."

"Return To Earth picks up right where Web of Darma left off. I personaly loved Web of Darma and was disapointed in the direction Gotham Rd took. If you are a fan of Michale Graves vocals and catchy songs then you will love this album. The added keyboard to many of the songs also surprisingly fits in perfectly. Michale Graves is one of the most underated musicians of our time and he proves it onece again with this enjoyable dark album. I did enjoy Punk Rock is Dead but was blown away by this effort by Graves. If you are a Michale Graves fan this is a must buy!!"
