Titled after the name of his pet Taiwanese duck, Bariken is another missle in Masami Akita's ongoing arsenal for animal liberation and respect through his music. In the spirit of his Animal Magnetism album (which featured sampled chickens), "Bariken" is a fully alarmed and thunderously quacking machine stomp, on which the seemingly innocent looking fancy waterfowl on the cover turns out to be a cunningly disguised Stealth bomber. Elsewhere the three part "Minka" (possibly titled after the much persecuted minke whale) returns to the glacial underwater rush of his previous 24 Hours-A Day Of Seals box set, "Bariken (Reprise)-Mother Of Mirrors" reactivates the jet engine thrust of the earlier track. - The Wire Magazine
