A must for Mendelssohnians

"I like Boughton's bracingly unfussy way with these endlessly inventive early Mendelssohn masterpieces, which have only fairly recently begun to receive their due. This playing is possessed by abundant spirit and the occasional hint of fallibility in polish only serves as a reminder of Nimbus's philosophy to "resort to the edit to save a performance, not to create one." This is the typically reverberant Nimbus recording but realistically transparent and unglamorized, as well. Mendelssohn devotees (and others as well) must not miss this rewarding music and spontaneous music making."
