Often overshadowed in the German choral repertoire by Bach and Brahms, Mendelssohn's works deserve to be much better known. This is especially true of the prayer for choir, organ, and orchestra "Verleih uns Frieden," which opens this excellent disc, and the double-choir "Kyrie eleison" that follows. The Corydon Singers are at their best here, delivering a full, rich, romantic sound that perfectly suits the music. --David Vernier
