CD Reviews

The Name Says it All

"Their voice is very melodious. Every song they sing is like a lullaby. The Melodians formed in 1965 at a local singing contest and made their recording debut for the legendary producer Clement "Coxonne" Dodd. Although some of their songs are remakes, they do have a beautiful voice that makes your feet shuffle, hips sway, and your thoughts clear. Whether they are still performing or not, these hits are a collector's item.

Swing and Dine and Dance for your Money

"Simply put, this is the kind of reggae music that will entice you to enjoy a nice midtempo dance with a hip-rocking young lady on a dance floor, or enjoy a cold drink as you sit in your easy chair after a long day at work or school. The Melodians were aptly named. Their music is full of sweet melody and harmony as well as a nice midtempo backbeat.

"Swing and Dine" is simply put one of the most beautiful songs that you could either dance or listen to, and the title of my review comes from this lovely number's chorus.

"Rivers of Babylon" is perhaps their best-known tune. This is essentially the Old Testament set of verses of the enslavement of the Hebrews set to music and placed in the context of the modern Black freedom struggle.

"Everybody Bawling" ia a nice teaming with rap pioneer U-Roy that will also put some pep in your step and a smile on your face.

In either case, this is one of those CDs that will save you a session with a psychiatrist. Buy it, listen, and enjoy."
