Good, not great

(3 out of 5 stars)
"The title track and the final track on this CD reissue of the 1962 LP are dumb but catchy, and Mel does what he can with them. The rest of the album, arranged by Shorty Rogers, is more jazz-oriented and more interesting, with smart, ebullient versions of "Walkin" and "Moanin," and a very nice take on "Sidney's Soliloquy." Torme goes for a more forceful, funkier sound here, and while I prefer his cooler, more airy style in the Bethlehem/Verve period, this is still great singing. I dock this one a couple of stars for the two disposable tracks, and for the recording balance, which puts Mel's voice too far in front of the music."
