CD Reviews

Fans of "faraquet" take notice!

"this group is comprised of ex members of the (much slept on) group "faraquet" whos release, "the view from this tower" was an amazing feat to say the least. anyway i am not going to bore you with the typical review. if you like dischord's music and/or faraquet, you'll like this. it is slower (than a view from..) but just as intricate and jagged. think "faraquet" meets "lungfish" meets "seven storey mountain". check it out."

"Medications is exactly what I needed to remedy my lack of faith in musicianship. Every aspect of their first full-length album is of the highest quality; the production, songwriting and amazing musicianship from all players is there from the onset and doesn't ever dwindle like most of the drivel that is rehashed over and over in the name of indie-rock. Then again what would you expect from former members of the amazing trio that was Faraquet? Devin Ocampo could have easily jumped into some other sub-par band and taken them to the heights of indie-rock success after disbanding Faraquet, but he stuck to writing music that he believed in and we are all the better for it. While doing a number of different musical projects, including playing drums for songwriter Mary Timony, Ocampo met and immediately started writing songs with drummer Andrew Becker and the next thing they new they had an EP's worth of material. After getting with former Fararqet drummer Chad Molter to play bass they were officially a band. Soon after they released an EP, (which I highly recommend if you can find it) toured Japan and recorded this beautiful masterpiece. This is the album of 2005! Go buy it!

"First things first- I can't vouch for the 30 second song samples. I bought the album (online, natch) and there are some great hooks on this album, but some of them don't appear in the first 30 seconds of the song.

Anyway- fantastic album. Faraquet was about my favorite band, and after listening to this album all week, I think Medications is as good or better. More melodic (vocally & musically) and at times more epic than the view from this tower. Great stuff."
