CD Reviews

Superb value. Meat just keeps on rocking!!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a superb album. I love the newness, the freshness of it.These are not the songs of young angst .. these are the songs of a man who has lived and loved .. I adore them. I believe they are as full of passion and meaning as any Meat has recorded, and they are delivered with a mature depth of passion that grips the soul. The title track and Did I Say That? are very powerful and emotive songs, and Do It!, Testify and Forever Young are so much more powerfully delivered by a man who's (forgive me Meat) walked a few miles around the block! This album will reach out strongly to those of us who have a few miles on the clock .. but its today sound will also appeal to the young. Those of us who have been there, done that and got the Tshirt will readily appreciate the wonderful lyrics of this album, particularly Why Isn't That Enough?, You're Right, I Was Wrong, Man Of Steel and Love You Out Loud. But as has become the pattern with Meat Loaf's albums there is a theme, and those who have yet to travel the full distance of love's road will still relate to the passion expressed and delivered in every track.Patti Russo, his long time singing partner, puts in a peerless performance as does his daughter Pearl Aday. Kasim Sulton brings his customary excellence in backing vocals and on bass guitar. Todd Rungren, who played such a pivotal role in the production of Bat Out of Hell, was responsible for the backing vocal arrangement on the title track. Composers include James Michael, Nikki Sixx, Jo Davidson, Kevin Griffin, Stephen Trask, Diane Warren, Rick Jude and Steve Balsamo. With Billy Rankin's Do It! Meat proves he can still rock with the best of them, and his vocals are exceptional in this fast paced and urgently delivered song. The cover of Forever Young is faultlessly delivered and conveys beautifully all the poignancy of Bob Dylan's lyrics. This is an album of songs about love, the pursuit of which has many of us travelling a path of peaks and valleys This album mirrors them all with soul and passion. To quote just one of them, (Because Of You, which captures perfectly the excitement and wonder of falling in love) this IS real time .. this IS larger than life!! Buy this album and fall in love all over again with beautifully written songs, delivered impeccably by one of the greatest Rock singers of all time. You will not be disappointed. The bonus tracks including video make it one of the best value albums I have ever bought, and worth it for the exceptional video of Did I Say That? alone."
