CD Reviews

Feel of nature
Phil Kasiecki | 04/08/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD by the living legend has a "nature" feel to it with most of the tracks, which had me wondering how much my favorite artist, Keiko Matsui, has been influenced by him since a lot of her music is like that. The title cut starts it out beautifully and with a great beat to it, but every track has a similar feel yet is also a little different. The alternate takes of "Beyond the Sun" and "Rolem" add a nice touch as well."
Perfect.
E. Minkovitch | Montreal, Quebec | 12/13/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have very little to add except that for me this albums represents one of the highest musical achievements for any genre, not only jazz. It's genre-bending, expansive and utterly uplifting, little coincidence that the cover should depict a mountain peak (?)"
A 70s Jazz Classic
Chicago South Sider | around Chicago | 11/22/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first fell in love with this album while in college, and to this day it is still a favorite jazz album of mine. Powerful yet beautiful, it's a wonderful transition between fusion and traditional jazz. The title track alone, with McCoy's piano work within the orchestration, is worth the price of the album in my book. From Tyner's piano work to Cobham's drumming to Laws' flute, I consider this 70s jazz classic essential to every jazz lover's collection. I can safely say that everyone I've ever shared this album with has always wanted to obtain it for themselves."
