Synopsis

Album Description
2007 four CD box set from Proper. Maxine Sullivan always sang in a relaxed and assured way, with pure articulation, always in tune and with a gentle sense of swing. This 100 track compilation contains all of her most popular sides recorded between 1937 and 1956 including the massive hit 'Loch Lomond'. This box set finds her fronting the bands led by Claude Thornhill, John Kirby and Benny Carter as well as in smaller settings with Teddy Wilson and Charlie Shavers. Proper Box.

CD Reviews

Thanks again for stealing my work.
T. Ono | Toronto, ON Canada | 08/16/2007
(1 out of 5 stars)

"As the producer of Baldwin Street Music, I am terribly disappointed that the folk at Proper decided to produce their box set by directly taking from my previous releases "The Le Reuban Bleu Years Complete Recordings 1044-1949" (BJH-303) and "Swinging Miss Loch Lomond - The 1950s" (BJH-314) aside from other label's products. I understand that European nations consider these recordings PD and have to pay very small sum to the publishers to release them, but what about someone's intellectual property? I have spent thousand of dollars to restore these classic recordings from shellac discs and worn-out reel-to-reel tapes. We also pay enormous amount to the publishers in USA and Canada. I wished that this collection sounds even better than mine, but the producer took the easiest way by copying from me (the conclusion after carefully comparing track by track). That's why they can sell this box set so cheap. Very sad."
