CD Reviews

Mahogany Timbre
P. Yeray | Illinois, usa | 08/16/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I love the rich mahogany timbre of her voice. Refreshing and heartfelt choice of material, perfect economy of production and sidemen that are the cream of the Brazil/NY crop.

Worth the import price as there is only a smattering of her vocals on others cd's, i.e. Charlie Byrd, Kenny Barron, Duduka da Fonseca."
Just like Michel Pfiffer
Bruce London | 04/05/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Dig, remember how that pretty actress-Michel Pfiffer-blew you away when she sang My Funny Valentine in the flick-Fabulous Baker Boys? No high fly pyrotechnique hit a star and keep on buzzing to another galaxy just because I can! No Mariah, no Whitney, not even a Barbra or that skinny French Canadian yodeler from the Titanic! Relax, think of Lauren Bacall was when Bogey first laid eyes on her. Then think Peggy Lee, Astrud Gilberto,Julie London or Billie Holiday. Hush, be quiet in the back," there is a lady singing. Oh yeah. One of Jobim's heavenly 5 girl chorale group that produced Paula Morelenbaum, Mauch was one of that angelic choir. Her singing is breatheless. Makes you want to crawl into bed, a soft, fluffy bed. No screams, no musical gymnasticks, just that great Bossa Jazz musical group and that husky, dusky, groovy style that demands you listen. Like Lester Young used to say, "it's gotta be pretty!""
