CD Reviews

The real band is HOT!! The sequenced cuts are only real good
09/18/1998
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The bone section on Donna Lee, is one of the most awesome sounds I have ever heard. Some of the charts are sequenced on a Yamaha DX-7 and are okay but not great. What is amazing about them is that Matt plays all sax parts, drums, piano and bass on regular instruments, plus the brass parts on the DX-7...he is good at all of them.Matt has a tremendous talent of taking familiar tunes and using the chord progressions and melodies (or pieces of it) and making an entirely new sound. For example, The Umpire Stikes Back is really Take Me Out To The Ball Game and Indian Riffs is a smokin' version of Cherokee...He is very talented! The real band is just amazing and worth the cost of the CD!!"
Tight Band
R. Nield | 12/14/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The band is tight. It is one of the best bands I've heard since big band. The writings of Catingub are just unbelievable. The Trombone section, especially in Donna Lee, is outstanding."
