"I was living in Puerto Rico and enjoying all of the indigenous music, rabidly absorbing all the different types and flavors, when I discovered the instrument called the cuatro. When we looked out the window one day and saw a flag at half-mast, we learned it was due to the death of Maso Rivera, Puerto Rico's renowned "El Rey del cuatro". I was able to find only this one title there at La Gran Discoteca in San Turce (thanks to Luis Ubilla who said this title was the best!). It is a compilation of some of the most expressive songs I have ever heard performed on a stringed instrument, it is a wonderful disc. Though I have discovered a number of Maso Rivera discs are in print, I have not seen this one advertised anywhere. If you can find it, it is a true gem. If you want to hear a unique instrument, a special type of music, and probably the finest proponent of instrumental cuatro music expressing the true soul of Puerto Rico, this is it!!! Don't stop at this one, try his other ones as well, you won't be disappointed."
